Santa Cruz’s sensational soul stompers The Inciters are back once again with the new five-song EP I Give You My Soul on Pirates Press Records.

The veteran 10-piece band have kept very busy since their fan-favorite 2023 LP Bring Back the Weekend, and they entered the studio with a batch of fresh new material that was still taking shape, allowing each member’s contributions to truly shine!

The crackling energy of collaboration was all over the sessions, never more so than in the recording of the song which ended up being the lead single. “‘Give Me’ was a song we put together specifically for one of our singers, Katrina Grube,” explains bassist Michael Luke. “The song was written to her voice, but with that said, the backing vocals along with the lead are so layered, the song just came alive. I think we all walked out of the studio with that song as our life soundtrack.”

Longtime fans and newcomers alike will be excited for this tight, all-killer, no-filler collection of new material. As is traditional with Northern Soul bands, The Inciters are no strangers to putting their own stamp on cover songs, but this time around, the source material comes from closer to home than a sought-after 45 from the 60s. On this EP, the band takes on “I’m Alright,” a song originated by singer Sabina Bukovec Kendrick’s streetpunk band Custom Fit, and re-imagines it for the soul set!

This spirit of family and friendship on this record carries over on a bittersweet note to its role as a tribute: “This album is dedicated to our good friend Dan Boer, who we lost in 2024,” says Luke. “Dan was not only a good friend, he played keys on every Inciters recording since day 1, with the unfortunate exception of this new release. Dan was a monster keyboard player, and he played with everyone on the west coast and more. We were humbled to have him play with us just because he wanted to, because he played not only with his band, The Sandollars, but with the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Roddy Radiation, Roy Ellis, and a laundry list of others. More than anything though, he was a great person.”
