The Ratchets - Mania - Baby Pink - Vinyl 7"

One of the original Pirates Press Records artists, New Jersey’s The Ratchets are back with the new 7” single Mania. From the very inception, The Ratchets have been a band that have combined classic punk, reggae, and roots rock sounds with their own innovative songwriting. One of the biggest weapons in the band’s arsenal has always been the wide scope of their musical influences, and they have never been shy about wearing them on their collective sleeve. The band are well known for their impeccable selection of cover songs, where they reinvent the songs in their own inimitable style while retaining reverence for what makes the originals so great.

The pair of songs on Mania take the inverse approach, as the band intentionally draws inspiration from the songwriting and performance of the legendary Ramones while crafting their own original songs. The punk innovators from Forest Hills, Queens have been a part of The Ratchets’ musical DNA from the start, with the band often performing an inspired cover of the protest song “Bonzo Goes To Bitburg” during the era of George W Bush’s Iraq War.So it is a fascinating bit of musical turnabout that has the band step into the Ramones’ sneakers for a pair of songs that are equal parts tribute and novel. For those who have been following the band closely from the very beginning, these song titles may sound familiar, as they were originally recorded on an incredibly rare square-shaped 7” in the very early days of Pirates, and later they were collected on the band’s Essentials vinyl box set.

Now the band have re-visited and re-vamped these tunes, including featuring guest vocals by Ramones devotee Jodi Ramom of fellow PPR recording artists Ramoms on “Oh Yeah!”
